Getting Started

🎉 Welcome to Block

Let's get your iPad set up so you can get to work right away. This guide walks you through each step — watch the video for each section, then follow along.

Required
Set your Block password
⛔ DO NOT continue the Okta setup in the welcome email.
The full Okta Verify setup will be covered in the next step of this guide. Continuing it from the email will cause issues with your setup.
Check your inbox for your Block welcome email and click the password reset link inside to set your initial Block password.

Follow the prompts to create your new password.

✅ Once your password has been changed, close that window and come back here to proceed with the Okta Verify setup on your personal phone in the next step.

Download Okta Verify on your phone
Download the Okta Verify app from your phone's App Store before proceeding.

Section 01

Setup Okta Verify
on your phone

Your first login happens on your personal mobile device using the Okta Verify app. Follow these steps to add your Block account.

Tap the + symbol
Open Okta Verify on your phone and tap the + icon near the top of the screen to add a new account.

Choose Organisation account type
On the "Choose Account Type" screen, select Organization (Work, school, company).

Important
Skip — then tap "No, Sign In Instead"
On the "Add Account from Another Device?" screen, tap Skip.
On the next screen asking about a QR Code, tap No, Sign In Instead. A QR Code cannot be used at this step.

Enter your organisation's Sign-In URL
Enter login.block.xyz as your organisation's Sign-In URL, then tap Next.

Sign in with your Block credentials
Enter your Block username (e.g. jsmith), then enter your Okta password when prompted.

Recommended
Enable Face ID / Biometrics
If your device supports biometrics, tap Enable to set up Face ID confirmation. This protects your account when signing in via Okta Verify.
You should see an "Account Added — @block.xyz" confirmation screen. Keep this app installed — you'll need it to sign in.

Section 02

Setup iPad

Power on your new iPad and walk through the initial configuration steps to enrol it into Block's device management.

Initial iPad Setup
Turn on the iPad. Select your preferred:
  • Language
  • Country / Region
  • Appearance (Light or Dark Mode)

Set Up Without Another Device
When prompted, select "Set Up Without Another Device", then connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Auto-appears
Remote Management Enrollment
After connecting to Wi-Fi, the Remote Management screen should automatically appear. Click "Enroll this iPad".

If the screen does not appear, contact IT Support at mission-control@squareup.com and include:
  • Asset Tag (6-digit number on the back of the iPad)
  • Serial Number

Sign In with Your Block Credentials
Enter your:
  • Okta / Block username
  • Password
When prompted for authentication, select "Get a Push Notification". On your personal mobile device, select the number that matches the one displayed on your laptop.

Device Enrollment & Configuration
The iPad will now begin:
  • Enrolling into device management
  • Installing required configurations
  • Applying security settings and policies
Please allow several minutes for this process to complete. Once finished, you will be prompted to:
  • Set up Touch ID
  • Create an iPad Passcode

Configure Device Settings
Complete the following setup steps:
  • Enable Location Services
  • Select your preferred Display Mode (Light or Dark)
Then navigate to Settings → General → Software Update and ensure the iPadOS version is fully up to date before proceeding.

Open Okta Verify
Open the Okta Verify app on the iPad.

Add Your Block Account
Follow these steps:
  • Tap Add Account
  • Select Organization
  • Select Add Account from Another Device
  • A QR code will appear on the iPad

Generate QR Code from Your Personal Device
On your personal mobile device:
  1. Open Okta Verify
  2. Tap the ">" arrow next to your login.block.xyz profile
  3. Scroll down and select Add Account to Another Device
A QR code will appear on your personal device. Use the iPad to scan the QR code.
Set Up Cloudflare One (VPN)

Wait for it
Open Cloudflare One
Open the Cloudflare One app.

⚠️ The app may take some time to install automatically. Please wait and do not manually install it via Self-Service. The same applies to Slack EMM.

Install VPN Profile
Follow the prompts to:
  • Install the VPN Profile
  • Tap Allow when prompted
You may be asked to enter your iPad passcode. Once completed, the VPN should connect automatically.
Install & Update Applications

Open Gmail
Open the Gmail app on your iPad.

Sign In to Gmail
  1. Select Google
  2. Tap Continue
  3. Enter your Block email address (e.g. johndoe@block.xyz)
  4. Complete Okta verification when prompted

Use Self-Service
Use the Self-Service app to download approved applications and install updates.

If you require an application not listed in Self-Service, email mission-control@squareup.com and include:
  • Business justification
  • Lead approval

You're All Set! You should now have access to Block email, VPN connectivity, and approved applications.
